Our fees are lower because this is a place where dentists learn. Here is exactly what that means for you.
Your procedure may be done by a licensed dentist who is learning
Course participants are dentists and specialists learning implant techniques for their own practices. All doctors are licensed to practice in Illinois, and a veteran implantologist, Joseph Kim, DDS, JD, attends.
Some procedures may be videotaped
Experienced implantologists may record certain procedures to teach other dentists.
That is why fees are lower
Teaching, video recording and support from implant and dental manufacturers help pay for part of your care.
The process
From first visit to finished tooth
Implant treatment happens in stages over several months. The surgical steps take place at the institute; the final tooth is usually made and fitted by your regular dentist, or at the institute if you prefer.
At the institute: Diagnostic steps
An evaluation, a treatment-plan visit, then impressions, photos and sometimes a CT scan, so the surgery is planned before the day.
At the institute: Implant placement
The surgery itself, from numbing to stitches. Sedation is available for this step.
Bone heals for 3 to 6 months afterward
At the institute: Implant uncovery
A short second visit to uncover the healed implant and fit a healing cap that shapes the gum. Not every case needs it.
About 3 weeks of gum healing afterward
With your regular dentist: Final impressions
Precise molds or 3D scans so the lab can make your final teeth. This step and the next are done with your regular dentist.
The lab usually needs 3 to 4 weeks
With your regular dentist: Delivery of your final teeth
Your regular dentist fits, secures and adjusts your new crown, bridge or denture.
With your regular dentist: Caring for your implants
Daily care at home plus regular checkups with your dentist keep implants and natural teeth healthy.
