Delivery of Prosthetics

At the delivery appointment with your regular dentist, the healing abutments will be removed, and the final prosthetics will first be tried in, to verify their proper fit on the implant and in relationship to your other teeth.  When this has been confirmed, the abutment needs to be torqued to the manufacturer’s recommended level.  This will ensure that the screw that holds the abutment will remain tight.

After the abutment has been torqued, the screw opening is covered by a waterproof material such as teflon tape, and the crown is cemented using a permanent cement.  Some adjustments may be necessary to the crown for your bite to be optimized for comfort and longevity.

If you are receiving a screw retained crown, the screw is torqued to manufacturer recommendations and a waterproof material such as teflon tape is packed into the screw opening. This will allow access to the screw in the future if there are any issues down the road. Next, the remaining opening is closed off with a filling.

For implant overdentures, an abutment, if used, is torqued to prevent future loosening.  Then the attachment is placed over the abutment, and glued into the denture.

After every thing is verified for fit and comfort, your delivery appointment is complete.  If the bite feels odd or “high” after a few days, make sure you contact your dentist as soon as possible, and they will perform a simple bite adjustment. Future maintenance  appointments will help prevent failure of the implant and problems to your natural teeth.
